Project Notes:
My Panel is self made out of various materials, wood, metal and fabric. The instruments are almost exclusively Saitek.
The GPS unit is a custom made unit that I built as is the trim wheel.
I use Opencockpits expansion cards to make the trim wheel speak to FSX and I use Leo Bodnars USB card to map the buttons and rotary switch on the GPS Panel.
I also made a bank of momentary switches which is visible under the Saitek Multi Panel. These are mapped as keyboard presses using a second Leo Bodnar USB card.
I also have a very simple, yet effective Parking Brake, situated under the GPS panel. This is a small box containing a hall effect switch that is activated when the handle is pulled out and again when it is pushed in, thereby releasing the brake.
I have 3 x 23″ Acer monitors and these are connected through a Triple Head 2 Go unit.
My System Specifications are:
• Asus P8Z77-V motherboard, Intel i7 3.4Ghz ‘Sandybridge’;
• 16GB, DDR3, Corsair Vengeance, 1600MHz RAM
• Geforce, GTX 570SC, 1280MB, graphics card;
• 500GB, WD Velociraptor – OS;
• 128GB, Corsair Force 3 SSD – FSX;
• 1.5TB flight simulator add-ons;
• Matrox TripleHead2Go – 3 x 23″ Acer LCD monitors; and
• Operating System – Windows 7, 64 Bit.
More information about the building of my panel and GPS could be found in the website of Mutley’s Hangar.
