While the world is moving toward USB-C, many flightsim hardwares still only work properly with USB 2.0 standard. Logitech’s Flight Instrument Panel (FIP) is
one of them. Steve Crouch sent me a comment for My Cockpit Rebuilding #14, saying that he wasn’t aware of that and so he had trouble with them before.
Yes, when choosing USB hubs or ports for FIP connections, the older 2.0 standard is still the preferred choice, disregarding the claim of downward compatibility in 3.0 standard.
Same to Steve, I attempted using FIPs on USB 3.0 many times before. They work fine in general but from time to time they exhibit this and that issues. Whether serious or not, they are quite disturbing.
So in my #14 story, I actually put a USB 2.0 hub between the 12-port 3.0 hub and the network computer for trouble-free operation.
Speaking of which, I just replaced the new 12-port hub with the two hubs I used before since there were occasional disconnections during start-up. I suspect it’s due to insufficient in power even though the power of the adapter for the new hub is double in ampere than the two hubs’ adding together.
Nevertheless, the USB 2.0 hub is still used as the bridge between the Surface Pro and the two 3.0 hubs with all the FIPs on them.
BTW, a few photos of Jose flying on some French fighter aircraft are added to his cockpit page. What an experience he had.
