I got the refund from Microsoft Support in about a day after my request. A thumb up to their quick response.
I immediately re-purchase the Standard Version again, hoping that it would solve the issue. Sadly, no. Same issue lingers and doesn’t go.
I really have my head scratched. If it is my DIY PCs, the Surface Pro should be good and shouldn’t encounter the same issue.
There are two things I am thinking now:
- Create a new MS Account, or
- Simply go get the physical disc version instead of wasting time trying to solve the download issue.
I’m a bit fed up.

Dear Tom,
I had the same issues. I jumped into MSFS 2020 bandwagon; I have good PC, Win10, i7 processor and GTX1080Ti.
I formatted my PC, and I have a dedicated 256GB SSD for Flight Simulator.
I purchased from MS Store with my MS account. İnitial software installed, and then when it comes to “update”, it is stuck at downloading that keeps resetting to 0%. The current file downloading is asobo-aircraft-787, the farthest it got is at 30% for that file then resets to 0%.
I see many remarks, tweets about the same issue without official answer.
Eagerly waiting for an appropriate answer somewhere…
Good luck!
Emre

Sorry to hear that you are having similar issue as I do. But you are at least moved to 30% and I stop at 0%. There must be something wrong with the installer.
Anyway, got my refund from MS and not yet decide which way to go as others said no go to DVD. My two choice left is either Steam or Game Pass.
Good luck to you too

Hi,
do NOT buy the DVD version in case of troubles with the MS Store Version. The version as such is nice, but I it tried to resort to the DVD version and at the end of the installation I was directed to the MS store where I now have two versions which I am unable to install.
I finally bought the Steam version which I could install without any issue and any use of the MS Store. Just trying to get money back for the MS Store version.

Thanks for the note Michael. Good advice. Will not do it to avoid falling into another loop.
Then Steam version is probably the last resort in my case.
Thanks

Very strange experience there Tom, was going to suggest a VPN too or even use Opera browser that has a built in VPN to initiate the download. But its not that either, apparently? Looks like you have tried everything barring a format of your PC .. and that really would be a last grasp thing to do.
I use a combination of Win 10’s own Disk Cleanup tool, CCleaner free ver, Wise Disk Cleaner free ver, MS own Windows Defender and finally adwarecleaner free from Malwarebytes … not suggesting you have Malware Tom, but this ritual in that procedure, particularly after an occasional messy non working install and reboot has always got me up and running again … oh … one last tip, have heard that during the unpacking process, some AV software can interfere with this sims install routine, so disable temporarily if are you are willing to do so whatever AV software or give it permissions you might have … obviously MS Defender thinks its a good app, but other AV software might not ?
Heard the disc version from Aerosoft needs a DVD in drive all the time to prove ownership, crazy if true … don’t even have an optical build in drive on my rigs any-more, have a good external USB 3 one for emergency though.
Good luck.

Yes, that’s very strange to me too. And the strangest is, I was successfully downloading the game the first time. Then when it was removed accidentally, it’s stuck at the content page forever — not on the first PC, but on my second and third PC as well. It doesn’t make sense.
At present, I am a bit fed up with the installation so I’ll leave it for now until I get the second refund from MS before I move on for another solution.
Yes, optical drives are no longer basic peripherals on computer any more. I couldn’t believe a new game in 2020 would make it a necessity again.

Tom,
I understand your desire to use the new flight sim. However, if I remember right when you did get it loaded it performed poorly, my question is do you think that paying for the box edition is possibly throwing good money away? What makes you think the box edition will perform any better?
I made the commitment to myself that I was not going to even think about running 2020 until it’s matured. Honestly from what I have seen the eye candy looks great, but I am also very happy with p3dv5 and some of the Orbix SW. Also, the lack of support for add-on SW ( its coming I am sure but it’s not here yet ). Also, it’s not a onetime purchase, I have a lot of money invested in p3d, and the thought of reinvesting that same amount of money into 2020 again just is not ringing true to me at this time.
So although I understand your desire to get it to work, I personally think maybe in a year or so I will look at it. I have had the same thoughts on X Plane and I am happy I never went down the X Plane rabbit hole.
Best of luck to you, and please keep up he reports. I value your comments as they are not biased and are basically true to life reports.

Thanks for the comment, Tom…sounds like I am talking to myself. ;)
Frankly speaking, even though P3Dv5 is faulty sometimes, I am still happy about it in general. X-Plane is good and in some ways excels P3D but it is not my cup of tea.
FS2020, you are absolutely right that there’s no need to rush for it. Even though I played it only for a few hours before it died on my machines, I felt it’s really more like an arcade game, at least at present.
I am keen on getting it, part of the reasons is I am a blogger…a blogger for flight simulation. In a way, I need some hand-on experiences with it.
But the true reason is I personally like all sorts of these techie stuffs. Probably it’s due to my technical background.
Moreover, I have no idea what causes the issue. I would feel better if the issue could be solved somehow.
Thanks again.

Are you saying that based on your limited experience with msfs 2020 it feels like an arcade game? If that’s what your saying I am surprised to say the least. Wasn’t that of issues people had with the Steam version years ago? I have a lot more comments if I have understood your comments about msfs 2020 correctly. Also, it reenforces my decision to stay away from it for awhile. I use flight sim for the realism, I don’t typically play games. Kind of hope I misunderstood your comment about it being a game vs a simulation.

Hi Tom,
Yes, I said that. It has a lot of incompatibility with existing hardware and software. It couldn’t handle multiple monitors, for example, and many other things.
If you are using flight sim for realism, and if you are happy with your current setup, FS2020 is not for you yet.
For example, FS2020 surely couldn’t run my cockpit in full. Besides yoke, rudders and throttle, there are many features and capabilities it lacks.
These issues may be changed and improved over time. It is what it is for now.
But to be fair, my experience with it is still limited. Others may have different opinions.

Hi Tom,
Please see comments from others who are using FS2020. They should give you a better picture of FS2020.

I had a similar experience downloading direct from MS. Turned out I was was downloading it to the C:\ drive that didn’t have the room. I would swear I had directed it to my 2G internal SSD with only Steam version of XP on it. Kept hanging at 89Gig, then I noticed it had changed to the C:\ as I sat there and stared at it it for hours before I noticed. It took me 3 times before I saw what had happened!

Thanks for the tips, Rick. Both my C:\ and F:\ (designated for FS2020) have more than the required capacity. Have tried copying to C:\ but resulted the same.
The initial part of the game was downloaded and installed successfully. It just failed to copy the remaining content to whichever drive I assigned.
I can see that it’s trying to add the very first B787 file but not getting thru for unknown reason.

I had similar problems using the Steam downloader Tom. I tried three times to download. Before the third download I cleaned out everything concerning Steam from my computer making sure there were no files or folders that were installed by Steam. The third download took six hours and I do have a good internet speed. It is a poor installer because you start the install , it begins and then it said installed but it isn’t you have to hit the same button again before it gets to the proper download page..

Thanks for the note, David.
The one I am trying to install in PC version which I intended to put onto a new SSD. I nearly cleaned everything I could during the install.
You are right that it’s a poor installer.
No rush for it anyway.

Have you tried downloading through a vpn? Maybe the DL server in your region has a corrupt file.

No I didn’t. I don’t have one. Also, it worked once until the content was removed after a failed update. Then I am not able to get thru the download stage again. Many people in my region don’t have any problem with the download.
The game can be installed. It is only the essential contents (90 something GBs) for aircraft, scenery, etc. couldn’t be downloaded.
