Mike Huggins started using flight simulators for instrument flying training and currency over one and half decade ago. Now he focuses on a Spitfire cockpit with greater realism whilst retaining accurate flying instruments.

Project Notes:
I have held a private pilot’s licence for 16 years and initially started using flight simulators for instrument flying training and currency. Using Saitek components enabled me to emulate a variety of instrument panels – C172, PA28, PA34, Piper Cub, and Spitfire – but, always seeking greater realism whilst retaining accurate flying instruments, I decided to focus on a Spitfire cockpit.
The current configuration is of an Mark XIV Spitfire (the cockpit exterior is of a Mark I Spitfire) and the panel is a mix of original working and non-working instruments, dials and buttons and ten Logitech FIPs with excellent instruments from Tom Tsui replicating Mark XIV ones (and one modern one in place of some of the flight critical non-working ones).
