The VL3 is a fun and so far the fastest Ultra Light aircraft in the world. Six months ago, I made the ASI FIP Gauge for it with the original kmh and additional knots versions. Since then, there’s no more new development for the aircraft as it basically runs on glass cockpits after all.
About a month ago, Lonn Agin in the US raised his interest of creating a new FIP gauge with the Flaps and Landing Gear indicators for the aircraft. And he proposed some layout suggestions as well.
Here’s the resulting ENG gauge (in the middle) for the VL3.
Besides the Flaps, Landing Gear and Fuel Selector Indicators, Low Fuel Lights customized for the VL3 are added to the layout. They will respectively turn on in yellow when the fuel level on the left is at 18% and the fuel level on the right at 15%. Then they further change to red and starts blinking when the active fuel tank drops to 10%.
Although these Low Fuel Light presentations are not the same as the static yellow indicators in the virtual cockpit, they do add fun and attention to the warnings.
In essence, the gauge is good for many other aircraft with similar Flaps, Landing Gears and Fuel Selectors configurations as well.
The ENG gauge is now available. Lonn expected it to be a hot item. I absolutely wish that he is right.
Without his initiation and sponsorship, the VL3 ENG gauge wouldn’t be happened sooner until next year, probably. Thanks Lonn.
