My last update to the current nVidia driver version 536.23 reminded me about this:
It’s advisable to check the 3D Settings again after the update, even though I have chosen the Express Option which is supposed to keep the last settings intact.

It’s because I encountered many times my settings were somehow changed or reverted to default after the updates.

The issue may due to better features or optimized algorithms introduced in the new drivers.  But it could be annoying too especially when the settings were nicely tuned.

What I do to minimize the impact is to save an image copy of my 3D Settings prior to updates so that I can cross-check the news and olds afterwards.

As cliché as it may sound, it helps.
