Many of you might have heard me complaining how MSFS2024 was buggy and not good to play since it launched last November.

Two weeks ago, I had it removed completely because neither its latest SU2 (official) nor SU3 (beta) were able to run at all. After the “Asobo Studio” logo showing up on the screen for a few seconds, the simulator crashed to desktop immediately.
It’s so maddening !
After trying various suggestions on the internet to no avail, I had no choice but to trash it.
But in the preparation for its reinstallation, I spent hours carefully wiping out all its traces left in the system, so as to ensure that the upcoming reinstallation would be totally fresh and clean.
I also double-checked that my BIOS and Windows were the most current as well.
I run Steam.
On the following Sunday morning, I clicked on the [PLAY] button of the “notorious” MSFS2024 again and started the reinstallation.
With a feeling of unease and anxiety hearing the on-going clicking sounds from the SSD (figurative of course), I was worry that something weird might happen at any moment.
Surprisingly, the whole process went smoothly and the MSFS2024 was effortlessly saved to the locations I planned without any issue.
After playing some flight sessions immediately with the newly reinstalled MSFS2024, I have to say that I was impressed.
It’s just like I was running on a completely new flight simulator (actually I did in a sense.)
The fps jumps nearly double in areas I frequently fly. Operations from inside to outside of the aircraft are virtually stutter-free.
Of course some lags are still inevitable in big airports around mega cities, such as KLAX, since my once top-notch computer hardware is now only considered to be mid-range according to the requirements of the simulator.
Still, I must say, this is what MSFS2024 should have performed (from the beginning.)
Over the week, I kept testing different settings while restoring various addons I had for it. And on top of that, I did a lot of flying, even with the SU3 beta. In general, it performed nicely.
Despite the fact that it is still buggy and has many mishaps and features to improve, I am so happy to say that MSFS2024, after a clean reinstallation, is now very playable.
Do I imply that it is time for MSFS2024 to replace MSFS2020 ?
No, not yet.
In my opinion, MSFS2024 still needs another six to nine months (or even a year) of updates and improvements before it can gain its wide-acceptance among serious players.
But by all mean, nothing should stop us from getting it ready now.
Happy Flying
P.S.
MSFS2020 is still my preferred choice.
Hm…should I do a clean reinstallation for it…hm ?
