706: Trim Wheel Pro Friction Mod

Earlier today, I received an email from Nicolas Bouesnard in France who acknowledges he has the same flaws on his Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro as I reviewed mine in Post 701.

Instead of leaving them as they are, he applied some mods to the unit and now he gets friction while turning the wheel.

701: Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro Review

If you have ever used any trim wheel circuited with an encoder before, you should have experienced that the last position remembered by it could be very annoying if you forget to set its position back to the center at the start of a flight.

TrimPro_01b_resizeSince I got the Cessna Trim Wheel from Saitek many years ago, I’ve been looking for a solution to this annoyance.   But search is futile.

So when I found out Flight Velocity was soon to release a new product called Trim Wheel Pro which would use new software last Decemeber, I was quite excited, hoping that it could be a remedy to my agony.

Unfortunately, after checking with the company, the new player is no exception.  The issue seems to be unsolvable. Continue reading

700: My Cockpit Rev #30 – Trim Wheel Pro

Yesterday, I got the Trim Wheel Pro from Flight Velocity, which I am planning to replace the Saitek Cessna Trim Wheel which has been in service for many years.TrimWheelPro_01S

A unique feature that distincts it from the Saitek one is an adjustable control knob on the unit, thru which users can vary and finetune the elevator trimming pitch during a flight.

After Logitech chopped the production of Saitek Cessna Trim Wheel since its acquisition, there aren’t similar trim wheels on the market one can find for a long time.

Is this Trim Wheel Pro a good replacement ?

How does it perform ?

Is the adjustable knob useful ? Continue reading

692: USB 2.0 is no longer preferred

In the old days with FSX/P3D, USB 2.0 was my preferred choice (see Post 582) when connecting Saitek/Logitech Flight Instrument Panels (FIPs) to the simulators.

Since I replaced my older computer for MSFS in last November, I’ve been deliberately avoiding to use any more USB 2.0 ports and hubs.  Now all my 12 FIPs are connected to the system via a powered USB 3.0 hub.USB3_FIP_resize

678: Fitting RSG GNS Display Easily

Read from RealSimGear’s forum that some users have alignment IMG_1577_resizeissues when moving the GPS displays from the virtual cockpit to the GNS430 and GNS530.

The official instruction says that there is no need to resize the popped out GPS screens from the virtual cockpit. Just move them over to the GNSs and press right Alt-Enter.  The GPS screens will fit on the devices accordingly.

Unfortunately, it’s not just those users in the forum having problems in doing so.  I encountered the same situation that the GPS screens wouldn’t fit onto the GNSs by following the official instruction as well.

Here’s my solutions: Continue reading

647: Logitech MSFS Plugin Won’t Work Alone

When I installed the Logitech’s MSFS Plugin onto my two computers (one new, one rebuilt) a couple of weeks ago, I got puzzled because all my Logitech’s Pro Flight Panels worked nicely with MSFS, except the Flight Instrument Panels (FIPs).

There were nothing on the displays — no serial numbers, no product images.  All screens were blank.  And the most frustrated was Windows recognized them all and said they worked normally.

On my last computer I just replaced, the MSFS Plugin works seamless without any issue.  I just have the Plugin installed and off it goes.

It took me nearly a day to figure out that Continue reading

646: G Flight Yoke 180° Mod Completed

Remember Alexey’s G Flight Yoke 180° modification and repair project in Post 586 ?  He just notified me that the project has completed.

The last step was to install the Leo Bodnar’s custom controller board instead of the broken Saitek’s board. As the result, the yoke kept 90% of its previous functionality except for the mode switch and the timer display. With the new board the yoke’s input became smoother, so the 180 degree rotation mod applied earlier now allows better control of the aircraft. The last mod will also help people whose yokes are broken to bring them back to life with the help of Leo Bodnar’s controller board, said Alexey.

Anyone interested in his project could see the videos showing the last modification and testing here: Continue reading
