The HK International Airport VHHH from Imagine Simulation is not a bad supplement to FlyTampa’s HK Kai Tak Airport VHHX.

08: Fail to Add Scenery

The Add Area function under Scenery Library somehow fails to install new sceneries under Windows 7.   The simple solution is to edit the Scenery.CFG file manually in order to place new addons to the Scenery Library as described below:

1. Locate Scenery.CFG file from  C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\
2. Make a backup of the Scenery.CFG file before making any changes.
3. Open the file with Notepad and go to the end of it.
4. Copy the last scenery section and Paste to the end.
5. Add 1 to the number of both Area and Layer.
6. Change Title as required

04: FSX Acceleration Activation Error

If Error 1-80004005 is encountered during FSX Acceleration activation, follow the steps below to remove it:

1) Locate the entry below by regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS
\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

2) Look at UpperFilters key.  It should contain “PartMgr” only.
3) If the key shows something more, mark down what they are
before editing the key to read “PartMgr” only.
4) Start FSX, the activation dialog should be prompted.
5) Proceed and let FSX start, then exit FSX.
6) Edit back the registry key with the previous content. (This step may not be required.)

03: FSX Reinstallation Error 1722

According to Microsoft, if you remove FSX from the computer and then try to reinstall the game, FSX does not install and you receive a “1722” error message, which represents that a system level failure has occurred.  In most cases, you will receive another error message that is followed by a “1605” installer error message.

To solve the problem, one needs to obtain the Software Licensing System Reset Tool (MSKB928080.exe) and extract the files to C:\MicrosoftKB928080.  If an Open File – Security Warning dialog box appears, click Run.  Now run the Software Licensing System Reset Tool as below:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Accessories
  4. Click Command Prompt
  5. At the command prompt, type the following command in the Open box: C:\MicrosoftKB928080\resetsldl –All
  6. Click OK
