767: New Multi-Shared VOR2

The VOR2 on the C152 and C172 used to be functioned and looked differently from each other and from the Multi-shared VOR1 as well when MSFS was launched.  However, the two VOR2s got different changes in the last two years and finally become identical to each other and look the same as the VOR1 after the recent 1.23.12.0 update.MSFS_MS_VOR2_R1C_resize

The VOR2 in the C152 and C172 FIP series are therefore united as one and moved to the Multi-Shared Gauges category just like the VOR1.

In other words, users can use the new MS VOR2 on both C152 and C172 now, and Continue reading

756: GENERIC G5 PFD R4 Preview

Following the Generic G5 HSI R4 update last week, the PFD section of the G5 gauge is being updated as well.

Here’s a screenshot of the new PFD, which is based on the Dec-2021 version of the Garmin G5.

Besides new features, many missing functions and enhancements, due to MSFS update, are added to it.

755: C172 Gauge 22-01 Updates

Due to recent MSFS updates, many of my FIP gauges need to be revised accordingly.

For example, the VOR2 of the C172 has been changed completely to an appearance similar to the Multi-Shared VOR1 that is used on the aircraft but with lesser features, such as no glideslope, etc.

In addition, the Ground Speed on the Extended Version of the ASI has to be revised to reflect the change in the MSFS update.

Besides, the C172 HDG, plus the Multi-Shared ALT, RPM, VOR1 and RPM used on the aircraft are updated accordingly with improved graphics rendering as well.

553: A 6-Part “How-To” Video from Father Dane

After the cockpit video, Father Dane further sent me the following information regarding the objectives of the simulator project that he built.  It also includes a 6-part tutorial explaining the very basics of flying.

Although Father Dane mentioned that most followers of FSX Times (many are real pilots) should not need these simple information, and some of the followers might have seen them in his channel already, I am still very happy to putting them here as they are very inspiring.

I built the C172 simulator as a Lenten project last year for the use of some local young students who wanted to find out if they really had the flying “bug”.

As it happened, they did and now they are all involved in taking real flying lessons on their way to earning a PPL. Continue reading

397: C172 RPM and VSI Gauge Updates

The locations of the Flaps Indicator and Trim Wheel Indicator on my C172 gauges are generally based on their proximity in the cockpit layout, which is natural and logical to my design.

However, when users find themselves lacking enough FIPs to accommodate all the gauges in their virtual cockpit, ADF most often is the one “to give way” to the other gauges.  I do the same since it makes sense to me as the ADF is not a must have equipment in many cases.

Unfortunately, under such scenario, the Flaps Indicator becomes hard to access, for which I’ve been trying to find out a good workaround.

Last week, Michael Basler raised the same question and gave me some suggestions. Continue reading

384: Cessna ASI now Comes with a Clock

The ASI Gauges for the A2A’s C172R, C182T and the default C172SP are now c172sp_asi_gif_sall equipped with an LT and UT clock on an extra extended version.   This feature has been requested by many friends and here it comes at last.

The clock in LCD style, though still just a basic one, should also serve the basic needs from many users.

381: C172SP FIP Gauges R4 Update

ALL Gauges in both the Integrated and Standalone versions of the C172SP FIP Series have been updated to R4.    This update is an important one.   It not only includes many graphical enhancements but also resolves many issues in programming and rendering, especially when dealing with SPAD.neXt.

266: Run Through Checklist Interactively

Perhaps many of you knew about it already, Voice-activated Checklist allows running through checklists via voice command.  This interesting stuff I only found recently on a Youtube video by Paul Endersby, who is the author of the utility.

Latest version is v0.5 and it comes by default with the A2A C172 Trainer Checklist.  Continue reading

260: C172 Sound Enhancement

TechLevel01W

Sounds of my default C172 SP have just been replaced by some more realistic alternatives I recently found on FlightSim.com. C172-Sound

Although the Soundpack by Christoffer Petersen of Turbine Sound Studios/TSS was created for FS2004 in 2007 and there’s a dedicated payware version for FSX, the freeware still works great on my C172 both in FSX and P3D environments.

As files in the soundpack are called differently, they must be renamed accordingly (basically taking out “TSS” from the filename) before they can be used to replace the default sound files.   Continue reading
