164: Maps – New Zealand Complete

With the installation of the newly purchased New Zealand North Island from Orbx, my modified version of the country’s Google Earth airport and landmark maps have been revised accordingly.

The first link below is for the North Island only, which can be used with my earliest Post 136 for the South Island.

The second link is for the whole of New Zealand, which includes everything from Airports to Points of Interests.

As always, although the links below are downloadable, it is still recommended to just COPY the URLs and add them via the Network Link feature in Google Earth so that updates can be immediately reflected when available.

136: Maps – New Zealand South

Just installed Orbx’s New Zealand South Island.  As expected, the product is a lot better than the default FSX scenery.    The quality of this new addon to me, however, is lower than the company’s North America products.   You will say “not bad” (edit: much better with the SP1) but won’t give it a “wow” when you first run it — die-hard Orbx fans may disagree.

Actually, the company’s recent products are giving me an impression that the overall quality of their addons are generally lowered.   I no longer buy their products without a second thought as I used to be in the last few years.

Anyway, here’s my modified version of the island’s airports and landmarks.   It is recommended to just COPY the URL and add it to the Network Link in Google Earth so that updates can be immediately reflected when available.

104: Kill UTX in Orbx Regions

Lately, I’ve been helping scenery checking for Return to Misty Moorings’ coming Cambria Icefield Research Project (CIRP).

One team member Guy Maricich (known as Spud) commented the anomalies I reported as follows:

Due to time differences, installation differences and ‘the eye of the beholder’ differences there will always be anomalies showing.   Tom for instance, seems to have some objects that are floating more so than others do.   I suspect either he has addon MESH or something else that is causing him to see things a wee bit different than most of the rest of us. Whenever switching from NA region to AU region or vice versa, I will switch to Default FSX region first as an intermediate step.

100: FSDiscover FTX NA POIs + 100th Post Note

FSDiscover by Flight1 is a navigation tool addon for FSX, which is very useful in locating airports and sightseeing spots for flightsimmers.

Orbx’s NA BLUE Pacific North West (PNW) comes with an FSDiscover data file for the region’s Points of Interest (don’t remember if it was created by Orbx officially or by some members from its forum).    However, the file contains airports information in the region as well, which causes unnecessary duplications when FSDiscover is showing airport names.
