Cockpit: Rick Sheenhan (9A5, USA)

Rick Sheehan in US LaFayette predominantly flied GA aircraft but turned to flight simulation after a heart attack many years ago.  Followings are photos of his home cockpit.

Project Notes:
I live in LaFayette, GA USA (just south of Chattanooga, TN) and the local airport is Barwick Field (9A5).

My hardware is a i7-4790k@4.9GHz, on a ASUS ROG Matrix 7 Formula motherboard with 16GB of GSkill Trident-X 2400 Ram, EVGA GTX-980sc (soon to be EVGA GTX-980 Ti Hydro Copper) video card powered by a EVGA SuperNova 1300-G2 power supply. I run 4 SSD’s in two pairs (2x256GB & 2X 500GB) one under Win 8.1 and experimenting with Win 10 on the other. I also have several large HDD’s for downloads and storage. This all runs in a Corsair Obsidian 900D box with custom water & 2 (1×420 & 1×360) radiators both in a push pull configuration. I do run a triple screen config as 1 screen, I also have a 48″ 3D screen mounted slightly above and behind for moving some views and 2 networked pc’s to show Plan-G etc.

My cockpit is made up of 23 Saitek devices running thru 4 powered hubs including the Saitek Yoke. All of the Flight Controls run thru the Yoke hub, Non FIP’s thru a single powered hub, and the 12 FIP’s broken into two groups of 6 into 2 separate powered hubs. With this configuration I can control when devices are powered and connected, making everything consistent without running power to the devices when not needed.

I predominantly fly GA aircraft and would love to fly for real but failed the medical because of a prior heart attack and insertion of a stint many years ago (stupid rule IMHO).

With the addition of Tom’s gauge sets it is a rocking system; maybe not as fancy or elaborate as some but suits me for now and somewhat satisfies my need for flight.
