615: My MSFS Update 4

I got refund from Microsoft again and it was even faster than last time.  Good job MS Support.

During my wait for the refund, I kept searching similar issues on the Internet and Xbox forum.  I found that I am not alone but still my case seems to be a little different from others.

One friend in last Post told me not to go for the DVD version.  So, Steam may be the only choice left for me.

Some friends commented there’s really no need to rush for it.  Yes, after a second thought, why not?

Frankly speaking, I am still happy with P3Dv5 even though it is faulty sometimes.

Truly I am keen on getting MSFS.   Part of the reasons is I am a blogger for flight simulation.   Another reason is I like to know whether my FIP gauges are compatible with it.  If not, what can I do about it.  But even if it is, it’s not going to happen tomorrow.

And the last and major reason is I really like all sorts of these techie stuffs.

Anyway, there’s still no reason why I can’t leave it for maybe a couple of days or even weeks before I further decide where to head to next.   Probably there will be solutions to my issue then.  Right?

  1. Just got confirmation from Just Flight .. Air Hauler 2 will be announced or released to FS2020 in the coming weeks, a sense of purpose to my flying .. love it :)

  2. Yup, there is going to be an update on 27th that hopefully addresses your issues Tom.

Was on Alpha/Beta testing myself and had fun with that, had problems with new build installs too sometimes, but a reboot and re-try always seemed to fix it, some users are reporting high GPU use during the install process, that is most unusual.

As regards the future of MS2020 .. I honestly feel its been released too early, it was in Beta for barely a month, was really surprised to see it released so early, was expecting October/November at the earliest … but books have to be balanced I guess? These are strange times we are in with the Virus still very much out there, we are in uncharted waters so to speak, so not sure how that may or may not have swayed an earlier than expected release?

Asobo the team hired by Microsoft have worked very hard though, even working from home during Covid-19 lock-down, they have been very communicative during the development so far, cant fault them with what they have been told to work with budget and/or time constraint wise.

There is a lot to fix in this new sim, mesh problems are one of the ones I think need to be at top of list, many are screaming for VR, fix the mesh issues first IMHO.

The promise is there for extended support this time from MS and I don’t think it will be dumped like MS Flight or some earlier versions of an FSX successor I seem to remember was cancelled, helicopter addition seems to be a case of when, not if now and and third party and even freeware seem to coming fast and furious.

FSX needed two service packs and the Acceleration pack for more content, then essentials like Steves DX10 fixer and lots more.

I’m happy to just bumble along with FS2020 for now and wait for it to mature (as I did with FSX) — and exploring some great visuals (where its not broken) and have fun, have enjoyed some breathtaking long flights now, the potential is there and I sincerely hope MS especially follow through with this as they say they intend to do.

This is a fantastic VFR/bush flying sim though just now and I love exploring my own part of the world and parts of world I’d love to visit but have not done so in real life.

Probably will buy a PMDG 737 or something once released and sim is more mature, but in truth, not really an airliner flyer, would be fun as a challenge though.

Like someone else mentioned Tom, looking fwd to when you do get it installed properly and share your usual good tweaks too.

    1. Thanks very much for all the useful tips and information Colin.
Surely will get it again and hope that it’s going to install to my computer. As new update is coming on 27th, probably I’ll wait until it releases.

  3. My son just purchased a top end PC and last night he used MSFS on it set at max playing on 4K monitor it was running very smooth, I was curious of the details for VFR flight so he flew for me around the area here and he was streaming live so I could see and I was impressed, again he has 1gb download speed so it helps for details, unfortunately he dont have any gear to test on it only a joy stick.
So for the graphics i really like it so lets see if the hardware will be sorted out.
His sim download was over 95gb took him an hour to get the sim.

  5. I have gone back to P3D also until Asobo and MS can sort out the SimConnect issue which makes running Spad or Vpilot untenable due to stutters while flying. I did use Lorby Axis and Ohs and put your attitude indicator in there and it worked fine for me. This is only a temporary solution as it is not as function packed as Spad and i can’t use my full FIP 6 pack.

MSFS itself is fine although with current limitations it is definitely more of an arcade game than a try flight sim but has promise. I’ll wait until the 27 Aug announcement on when the first update will be but at the moment for me it is purely a game to sightsee around my own area.

  6. Hi Tom,

overall, I find MSFS is certainly worth pusuing and in my humble opinion it will be the simulator of the future, although I agree it was released too early and will need some time to mature yet.

Those of your gauge which I used so far in the beta (C172, Cub, and a few others, sorry I am on holiday right now) have been working perfectly under SPAD.neXt in the Beta, Unfortunately the Release Version has a bug incuring bad stuttering when connecting any Simconnect program thus I didn’t dare to test this before going on holiday.

    1. Thank you Michael. Glad to hear that SPAD.neXt is an option to carry on using my gauges.
Will take a break for now and retry loading FS2020 again.
      Enjoy your holiday.

  7. Keep at it Tom, MSFS is not perfect but the graphics alone are worth the effort.

FYI, my Saitek Yoke, Pedals, TPM and Trim Wheel work fine but none of the other stuff shows up at all. FIP’s; Radios’ BIP: Multi Panel. I can;t seem to find any help on this issue so far. My suspicion is I will need to re-load the Logitech drivers that I removed for your gauges to work with XP. I have heard that Lorby “Axis And Ohs” works with MSFS but seems to have issues so they recommend not to buy it till MSFS does some work along that line; and it only works for 3 FIP’s from what I understand.
