774: My New Gear – Elgato Stream Deck XL

Elgato Stream Deck may not be a stranger to you.  The first time I heard about it was from Philippe AKA 1L2P in his Cockpit story last June.  Frankly, I didn’t pay attention to it at all until I saw a demo in a shopping arcade a few months ago.  I was amazed.  StreamDeck_08_resizeNow it has become one of the indispensable accessories in my computer system, not just for flight simulation.

The Elgato Stream Deck has 3 different versions which function similarly but differentiated by the number of keys (or buttons) on them — Stream Deck Mini (6 keys), Stream Deck (15 keys), and Stream Deck XL (32 keys).

Simply speaking, the Elgato Stream Deck is sort of a keyboard device that allows you to create numerous functions and macros for various applications, including games.  And the beauty is you can customize and create associated icons for the functions and keyboard macros assigned to each button.

This is especially good for games like flight simulation which involves tens of keyboard commands.

Thru the Profiles I created per my own needs as shown below, I basically don’t have to memorize any keyboard command for MSFS at all.StreamDeckProfile
If you haven’t heard about the Stream Deck before, I would recommend you to give it a try.  Actually you could test out how it works thru its mobile apps on your phone or note pad for 30 days free.

And if you decide to go for the hardware, I would suggest the 32-key XL version.   I found the 32 keys are merely enough in my settings.  I wouldn’t mind to have more.

P.S.
I am still changing the Profiles irregularly.  I would rather keep them to myself for now.   I will share them in the Freeware section in my store once I find them satisfactory.

  1. Gudday,

I know this is an old post, would you feel comfortable sharing your profile? I checked the Freeware section and could not see it there.. I’m a long time fan of Stream Deck, especially for Flight Sim use. I’ve not found a decent MSFS profile yet and I love the look of yours.

    Cheers!
