819: Microsoft FS2024 is Coming

Just informed by a friend about the annoucement of FS2024.  Probably many of you have read about the news.

On one hand, I am a bit shocked as there are still many issues unsettled in the current version. On the other, I am not too surprised as releasing new paid version every few years are becoming standard practices among software and game developers nowadays.

From the trailer, if the coming FS2024 does perform what it is demonstrated, flight simulation surely will be taken to a new level. But how good it is going to be and will the current issues and requests in FS2020 be fixed and fulfilled in the new version, there isn’t any information yet.

Microsoft reveals that the new FS2024 will be compatible with most current addons and peripherals developed for the FS2020.

That’s a good news at least to all of us who invested in the game either substantially since we will probably have to pay in full for the new platform again.

To those people who use FS2020 as a pilot training aid, they may worry if the FS2024 will become more like a game. There’s no doubt about it IMO as it is essentially a game by nature.

But as long as it offers users options to continuously use it as a training tool, the more realistic it is, the more benefits people will get from it, I believe.

True, it’s too early to speculate what it will bring to flightsimmers at this stage. But to other flight simulation developers, it’s certainly a hard blow.

  1. It doesn’t appear to be a replacement for 2020, the announcement says that 2020 will continue to be supported and the roadmap will continue.
As usual a lot of people seem to be seizing on a little information and predicting doom and gloom. Let’s just wait until more information becomes available.

    1. You got your point. But normally new comers will become focus and old ones will fade away. XPlane 10, P3Dv3 and 4 are good examples.
If you are a developer, will you shift your efforts to the new one? Anyway, let’s wait and see.
