Cockpit: David Marsden (EGCN, UK)

David Marsden said that his flight simulator is installed in his wife’s sewing room and therefore could not build a dedicated enclosure.   Recently he solved the problem by putting a piece of cloth onto some frames, which he could put up a temporary cockpit space in about 2 minutes and take it down just as quickly.

David said the idea was got from Ben Weaver in Cockpits section who had done the same.  Followings are the pictures of his “interpretation”, which he thought might be of help to anyone who also has limited space for their cockpit build.

517: C172R and C172SP Annunciator Panel Released

The Annunciator Panels for the A2A C172R and default C172SP are now ready.  Below is a video capture of the panel added to the Compass on the A2A C172R.

Similar to the C172SP one previewed in Post 515, the C172R annunciator panel will only pop up when error warning lights or equipment status indications are turned on, so that it will not affect the design and functions of the Wet Compass as well as the overall layout of the FIP gauge setup.

However, since the contents and reactions of each annunciator panel Continue reading

516: FIP Gauges for A2A Piper Cub

Since I released the Piper Cub gauges two years ago, there are emails once in a while asking me if the gauges are compatible with A2A’s Piper Cub or if there will be dedicated gauges developed for the A2A aircraft.

Well, here it comes at last.  Even though I don’t fly this fun aircraft much, I am still happy to have it completing my Piper Cub sets.

Do note that since all A2A aircraft use Local Variables (LVars), these new gauges are no exception needing SPAD.neXt to run properly on the FIPs (Flight Instrument Panels). Continue reading

Away Notice

Please note that I am going to have my eye surgery for cataracts this week.
From Oct-9, I’ll keep minimal access to my computer for a couple of weeks.  Replies to inquiries and emails will be SLOW during this period.

515: Annunciator Panel Video Preview

Logitech (previous Saitek) has an Information Panel but I never like it as it looks odd in almost all virtual cockpits due to its huge size and footprint.

That’s one of the reasons why I developed the Integrated series of gauges for the C172SP in the first place, on which the annunciator panel fits nicely to the Attitude Indicator (ATTAN).

Since the release of the C172SP Standalone gauges many years ago, I’ve been trying to create an equivalent annunciator panel that looks as good as the one on the ATTAN.   There were dozens of idea tried over the years but none was satisfied, no matter they were rendered onto a separate FIP (Flight Instrument Panel) or incorporated into any existing standalone gauges.

Finally, here comes the most satisfied annunciator panel design that I am quite happy with at present.  Following is the video preview of it.

With the target in mind that Continue reading

514: The Flightsim Store is in Trouble

Whether you heard about it or not, the Flightsim Store in Australia (even though seems to be operating normally) is having troubles completing orders from customers and paying developers who sell their products via the online store.

It won’t hurt to pay a bit more cautious towards the online store under such circumstances.

513: Free Private Pilot Study Guide

Redbird Flight Simulations has a “Training Events Workbook” to help private pilot students and teachers using their simulators. The Workbook covers topics including home-study exercises and oral exam prep questions, as well as scenario based training through simulator missions.

Although you may not have access to or be trained in a Redbird simulator, the book is still a good training supplement to any private pilot curriculum.   The book is now free for download from here or by clicking on the image.

Poll: FIP Gauge Survey Final Result

Followings are the final feedback accumulated over the last 10 days for the survey of “How Many FIPS Do You Have?” posted on August 31.  Tentative results from day 1 and day 3 are included for comparisons.
